A Journey into the Deep Sea
2019-2021
Mixed media / Floats, rope, 350 x 650 cm
Single-channel video / 05:42
The first part of the work is a sculpture resembling a rug with an Oriental pattern, expanding to a size of 650 x 350 cm. It is woven from ready-made fishing net floats that have been unraveled and rewoven using fishing rope. The second part is a video capturing, from a bird’s-eye view, the rug’s journey across the open sea, far from any safe or sheltered space. Floating on the water’s surface, it marks the transition from the defined to the undefined, challenging the notion of solid, familiar ground and reexamining it within the vast, mysterious, and uncharted depths of the sea.
